Dear IAS Family,
It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself, Katrina Brinker, as the new Head of School at International Academy of Smyrna. My passion for education and supporting the success of all students have been shaped over the past 17 years as an elementary school teacher, science teacher, academic coach, school improvement specialist, and assistant principal. In each role, my goal has been to ensure the success of students and the school, by providing a strong instructional foundation as well as the necessary supports. Similarly, it is my number one priority at IAS to ensure that students receive a well-rounded, rigorous education.
A well-rounded, rigorous education means an emphasis on a strong curriculum taught by dedicated teachers who support students, foster character development, cultivate their passions, and explore the world outside of the classroom. I believe that a solid curriculum, taught by caring teachers, coupled with rich learning experiences undergird the development well-rounded students. As the Head of School, I am committed to ensuring that students are engaged and active participants in shaping their learning experiences. Through this partnership with parents and students, I am excited about the possibilities of growth at IAS. I look forward to seeing students engaging and interacting with their peers, the instructors, and me, whether it be listening to students engage in a Socratic seminar, participating in a Number Talk, or performing in the school musical.
More importantly, an excellent education is not possible without the consistent collaboration of all stakeholders. Over the past year, as assistant principal at IAS, I have had the privilege of getting to know many of the amazing students and parents. One of the greatest impressions has been the level of dedication and pride at IAS. It is through that same lens of dedication and pride that I look forward to continuing the tradition of being IAS Strong! I anticipate building relationships with more families and working with each of you as we grow.
I look forward to a great year! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or ideas that you would like to discuss.
