IIAS Attendance / Tardy Policy
Attendance for students in Georgia is not optional. The Attendance laws require all students to attend school until the age of 16. There are set instructional minutes each day for Core Subjects (math, language arts, reading, etc). When your child misses school (even for illness), he or she can fall behind and will need extra attention from staff and parents to recover the missed instruction. Students who are chronically late or picked up regularly before school lets out, or during the school day, miss valuable instructional time that cannot be recovered. Running late should not exceed five times a year (we know our traffic issues and our family routines). Doctor’s appointments should be made during vacation times and afterschool if at all possible. We want our children to learn the most they can in our given school year. Let’s work our calendars and agendas as to not impede on our children’s instruction (FYI, we are required by the state to report chronic absences and excessive tardies to DFACS. We reported nine families last year).
