As a Public Charter School, IAS receives local and state funding. However, that funding does not cover the cost for facilities and maintenance. The support we receive through donations helps to bridge the gap between local/state funding and the actual costs of operating the school and providing the high-quality educational services offered at IAS.Some examples of what your support will enable us to do are; achieve a low teacher-to-student ratio, state of the art technology and many other resources that will make our students’ educational experience exceptional.
Ways to Give
The Annual Giving Campaign: Essential to the school’s operating budget, the Annual Giving Campaign is our primary vehicle to make up the difference between local/state funding and the actual day-to-day cost of running the school and educating the students. You may make a donation to our annual fund at anytime.
Capital Campaigns: Campaigns are held for specific facility improvements as needed. Some of our current capital needs are:
- Build-out of an expanded media center
- Carpool canopy
- Additional classrooms
- Gymnasium/Auditorium facility
Matching Gifts: Please check with your employer to find out if your business or organization, as an employee benefit, will match your gift. More than 550 American corporations match their employees’ philanthropic financial contributions. Matching gifts allow you to double or triple your gift to the school on an annual basis.
In-Kind Donations:Often donors determine that donating services or materials is a better fit with their philanthropic efforts.Generous donations of in-kind goods and services help IAS meet our students’ greatest needs, while freeing budgetary resources for critical programs and operations. Below are some examples of in-kind donations that would support our students:
- Promethean Boards
- Text and Library Books
Planned Giving: If a family member or friend has been touched by International Academy of Smyrna, we hope you’ll consider making a gift to us in honor of that person. Providing a gift establishes a living tribute that allows a donor to:
- Honor a loved one or your own legacy
- Support our ongoing mission
- Receive personal recognition for your contribution
You may feel reluctant to tie your gift to personal recognition, yet allowing IAS to list your name or that of a loved one often inspires philanthropy in others and supports an institution important to you.

June 30th and December 31st – why are those dates important?
There are two very important dates to keep in mind when making a gift to IAS. In order for you to receive a tax deduction for your gift, it must be received before the end of the calendar year. As long as you make an online gift before midnight on or before December 31st, that gift counts in that tax year. If you mail in a check, the letter must be postmarked on December 31stin order for it to count in the calendar year. If you are physically dropping off a check, you must bring it to the school no later than5pm on December 31st for the gift to be counted in the calendar year. IAS operates on a fiscal year calendar that ends on June 30th. This date is important because all the cash raised for the year must be received by the close of business on June 30th in order for it to be included in the audit and budget for the school.
